The braided belt: three materials, one spirit

The braided belt: three materials, one spirit

The men's braided belt collection features three distinct constructions.
- Charlie and Andie, in 30mm, are braided from an elasticated strap, for a comfort and flexibility that a leather belt does not have.
- Thomas, in 35mm, features traditional braiding in genuine cowhide leather, for a more classic and structured look.
- Leonard, also in 35mm, features a softer, more textured material with a suede velvet braid, lined with viscose on the inside.
More dressed up than raw denim but less formal than a black smooth leather belt, the men's braided belt naturally finds its place with chinos, jeans or canvas trousers. It also goes very well with a light summer suit, in linen or cotton, for a casual chic look: it is however less suitable with a strict city suit, where smooth leather still has the advantage.

Charlie and Andie, the hand-braided elastic strap

Charlie and Andie, the hand-braided elastic strap

Charlie and Andie share the same 30mm design: an elasticated strap, hand-braided strand by strand, paired with a leather-covered buckle and a cowhide leather loop. Charlie is characterized by a plain weave, available in a palette ranging from sober colors to brighter hues, while Andie features a two-tone weave for a more graphic and assertive touch.

Thomas, traditional cowhide braiding

Thomas, traditional cowhide braiding

Thomas takes the opposite approach with a 35mm braid made of genuine cowhide leather, paired with a silver metal buckle. A construction closer to a classic leather belt, for those who prefer the hold and drape of leather to the suppleness of an elasticated strap.

Leonard, the braided suede crust

Leonard, the braided suede crust

Leonard offers a third interpretation of braiding, also in 35mm: a velvet suede, this reverse leather which is softer and more textured to the touch, braided and then lined with viscose on the inside for more comfort against the skin. A more felted material, which gives the braided belt an even more casual look. The silver-plated metal buckle is the same as Thomas'.
The four models are crafted in the Château-Renault workshop, in the Loire Valley.

A flexible, but not random, choice of size

A flexible, but not random, choice of size

One of the advantages of braiding, whether it's Charlie and Andie's elasticated strap or Thomas and Leonard's leather braid, is the absence of fixed holes: unlike a smooth belt, which requires a precise adjustment point, braiding allows for a little play in the fit. However, this does not mean you don't need to choose the right size: a belt that is too short or too long would leave an end that is missing or sticking out, which is less neat than an optimal fit.

How to care for a braided belt according to its material

How to care for a braided belt according to its material

Charlie and Andie’s elasticated strap can be cared for like a textile: a slightly damp cloth is sufficient for routine cleaning, without using leather products or prolonged exposure to water, which could weaken its elasticity. Their leather-covered buckle and cowhide leather loop, like all of Thomas's leather braiding, can be cared for like the House's other leathers: a nourishing cream applied occasionally will preserve their suppleness.
Leonard’s velvet split leather requires different care: it should be brushed in the direction of the nap with a soft brush specifically designed for velvety materials, without a damp cloth or smooth leather cream, which would flatten the velvet. Its more fragile viscose lining does not tolerate humidity or repeated rubbing well: it is best to avoid any prolonged contact with water. In all cases, storing the belt away from light and humidity will prolong its lifespan.

What are the advantages of a men's braided belt compared to a classic smooth leather belt?
On Maison Boinet braided belts, the absence of fixed holes allows for flexibility in adjustment, making the size choice more adaptable than with a classic belt, able to accommodate changes in your waist size, or when given as a gift. On the elastic braided belts, Charlie and Andie, the hand-braided strap also offers comfort and flexibility that a smooth leather belt does not have. On the leather braided belts Thomas and Leonard, the cowhide leather or suede braiding primarily provides a texture and relief that a smooth belt does not, for a more refined look, and for Leonard, a more subdued one.

How to choose the width of a men's braided belt according to your style (thin, standard, wide)?
Charlie and Andie, at 30mm, are suitable for both dressed-up occasions and more casual trousers. Thomas and Leonard, at 35mm, enhance the silhouette more and are particularly suited to jeans or wide-leg trousers.

Can a men's braided belt be worn with a light suit?
Yes, with a light summer linen or cotton suit, Charlie or Andie add a more casual touch without clashing, thanks to their flexible strap and leather-covered buckle. Thomas, being closer to a classic leather belt, remains the most appropriate choice for this type of outfit; Leonard, with its more subdued material, is better suited for casual wear.

How to care for a men's braided belt to preserve its flexibility and color?
The elasticated strap of Charlie and Andie should be cleaned with a slightly damp cloth, without leather products. Thomas's leather should be nourished occasionally with a leather cream. Leonard's suede requires a soft brush dedicated to velvety materials, without water or smooth leather cream.

What size men's braided belt to choose without a fixed hole system?

The absence of fixed holes, whether due to the elasticity of the strap on Charlie and Andie or the braiding itself on Thomas and Leonard, allows for some flexibility in adjustment. However, it is still important to choose the right size: a poorly chosen belt would leave a tail that is too short or too long, less neat than an optimal adjustment. It is best to refer to our size guide.

How to pair a men's braided belt with jeans, chinos, or shorts?
With jeans or chinos, all four models naturally complement a casual style all year round. With shorts, Andie with its two-tone braiding, or Leonard with its more subdued material, particularly extend this summer and relaxed spirit.

Is a men's braided belt suitable for all body types?
Yes: whether it's the elasticated strap of Charlie and Andie, the leather braiding of Thomas, or the suede of Leonard, these belts adapt to all body types, with the chosen width simply allowing to accentuate or attenuate their presence at the waist.
